There were so many things that I loved about Davina and Jonathan's beautiful wedding day that I can't wait to share with you. A lot of our wedding clients love the traditional formula of a typical Canadian wedding day. Get ready separately at a hotel, head to a church (usually), take pictures somewhere interesting and party the night away at a banquet hall. But these two had their own way of doing things and it made it that much more special.
First of all, they rented an Air B & B which I always recommend. The biggest reason is the privacy of it, you can have all your besties and family around you while you're getting ready and you don't have to worry about everyone being in different rooms. But the biggest benefit is that a house makes much more of an interesting backdrop and atmosphere to photograph in than a hotel, no matter how cool the hotel is.
The second really cool thing they did - they got ready together. They didn't have a bridal party crowding around, instead they opted for a quiet morning, helping each other look their very best for each other. There were so many sweet moments, from Davina helping Jonathan snip a few stray threads, to Jonathan zipping up Davina's absolutely stunning dress. This way of doing things may not be for everyone, but it was absolutely perfect for Davina and Jonathan and that's what every couple should do on their wedding day. Things that are important to them.
After they were finished getting ready, Mike headed over to The Central Experimental Farm. The blossoms were out in all of their glory and with all the rain we'd had that day, they were absolutely stunning. (When I talk about rain here, I'm talking about the Ottawa River rising so high they closed the bridges, it was kinda cool but kinda scary at the same time)
The wedding itself took place a really cool independent art gallery called Orange Gallery. It was intimate, funky and stylish all at once. All of the couples most treasured friends and family got to witness these two profess their forever love to each other and it was a beautiful ceremony in so many different ways.
As is Mike's style here at Zekar Photography Studio, as soon as the sun went down Davina and Jonathan headed outside to get some amazing nighttime shots. The rain didn't let us down this time either by creating beautiful reflections and naturally curated bokeh.
At last it was time to finish off the night with dancing and celebration. I'm loving how many more couples we see who have a choreographed dance that they have learned to make their first dance even more special. It adds a lot more importance to this tradition and its fun to work together on something for your wedding. Plus you look pretty amazing in front of all your guests! Or at least you look like you tried your best :)

This was honestly one of my favourite weddings that Mike did in 2019, there's so much in each photo and I just really love how candid the whole event turned out. If you love our style and would like us to be a part of your wedding day, we'd love to hear from you!
